Its rough exterior hides a rougher interior. Once phase one is complete, this '58 single cab will be able to comfortably tow other vehicles and carry loads up to 1 ton.
The cab will be sealed to prevent leaks during rainy weather.
|
The rear assembly currently sits too high due to previous modifications. After phase one, the new rear suspension will be set for safe and sturdy work.
|
Sealing the bed will stop much of the water damage from occurring in the treasure chest below. In addition, the bed liner will protect the bed from further damage. |
When purchased, the truck already had reduction boxes removed and a Type 3 trani installed with a 1600 single-port engine.
The new engine and power train will give the truck the extra power it needs.

Restoration - 1958 Single Cab Pickup
|
Purchased as a work truck in 2004, this truck will eventually have an upgraded power train for added payload and added towing capabilities.
For the past two years, we've been collecting parts to repair and upgrade the truck. We'd like to perform a complete restoration on this truck, but that will have to wait. In the meantime, phase one will include:
- Install a 2-liter 1979 Type 2 engine
- Convert the rear end to IRS using sway-away 27 mm torsion bars and spring plates
- Install a late 091 Type 2 transaxle
- Add Chromoly axles and 930 Porsche CV joints
Install a narrowed and lowered ball joint axle beam w/ power disc brake
- Replace treasure chest floor
- Reseal the cab
- Coat the bed and interior gates with an epoxy bed liner
